St. George’s

January 19, 2008

I love this building. It looks kind of out-of-place in Charleston, right next to the uber-boring architecture of the shopping mall.

I’m home sick… feeling horrible. I had just kicked the upper-respiratory funkiness that everyone in my home was passing around, and now I’ve got the sinus funkiness that everyone else is passing around. My head feels like it’s encased in a thick block of Jello. I would really like to go take a nap, maybe watch a good movie or do something that involves a minimal amount of standing upright… but it doesn’t seem likely. *sigh* Moms aren’t allowed to have sick-time.

Broken Angel to Be Rescued

January 11, 2007

A deal has been made to save “Broken Angel,” an eccentric building on Brooklyn’s Downing Street. The building, deemed “outsider art” by Pratt professor Brent Porter, was featured in Dave Chapelle’s Block Party, and was damaged by a fire in 2006.

The building is truly fascinating and I’m glad to see that there is some funding, somewhere, to get it restored. Click here for the full story.

Masonic Temple #2

October 27, 2006

This is a close-up of some beautiful carved stone on the Masonic Temple in Charleston WV, which is now home to the Charleston Ballet. I love this building. It looks like a huge wedding cake, with all the gorgeous carved stone features all over the building like icing flowers on a cake.
