August 24, 2007You just have to love Banksy:
That’s graffiti, on an actual wall in London.
This is the same artist who did the Pink Elephant in the middle of the room in LA last year.
Gingers Extinct in 100 Years?
August 23, 2007This makes sense. My husband’s a ginger, I’m definitely of mediterranean descent. Our kids are blonde. Not readheads, not dark like me (I look like the hispanic nanny. ) We’ve done nothing to save the redheads. Sorry… I tried. I blame my lack of recessive ginger genetics.
Tetris Car Commercial

It’s funny, I always think of Tetris and even hum the song as I’m loading the car to go on a trip.
Back to Work
August 21, 2007
It’s the second day back to school, and things are going well. My schedule is awesome! My afternoon classes are small, and the kids get along well together. The mornings are insanely busy, but I have my planning period and lunch periods back-to-back, so I can get things done in my classroom, or even run errands if I need to. Oooh, I could go out for lunch sometime and actually have time to eat something! I could paint! Or I could actually write lesson plans and grade papers in school and not have to cart them all home to do, which is probably what I’ll spend most of my time doing.
This is going to rock!
It’s the little things that make me happy.
New Duncan Imperials
August 18, 2007Gawd, I love Sitemeter.
I saw that somebody — maybe you — tried Googling the title of my first day of school essay to see what it came from. I often use song lyrics as titles, but really ought to share my sources.
The song is “Haircut and New Shoes” by the New Duncan Imperials, a band I remember fondly from my college weekend nights hanging out at Gumby’s in Huntington. Good times.
You can hear a clip of the song at Amazon. The song is my yearly “back to school” anthem. Jokingly, of course. I really do love going back to school.
“Haircut and new shoes; first day of school blues. Mama, don’t feed me to the lions! Haircut and new shoes, first day of school blues… okay, I’m goin’… dang it, I’m cryin’!”
You gotta love NDI.
Fan: A Love Story
August 18, 2007by Lori Samsel
Another artistic animation found while surfing around on Youtube. This one all my WV friends should be able to relate to, because it’s been HOT around here! Apparently, the girl in the video is hot, too, and she is looking for ways to cool off. I love the simplistic, curvy line drawings reminiscent of Andy Warhol’s early blotted line drawings (the shoes!) I also like the metaphors that are represented in thought bubbles. Very clever! I am definitely going to share this with my students when we start our own animation projects.
